Which Free Antivirus Solution Should You Use?

When there is a need in any market you are sure to see solutions pop up.

That is the way that the free market works – there is a problem and then someone creates a solution to that problem.

After they create a solution and are successful then someone else comes up with their version of the solution and they put their product on the market.

The better product usually wins, but not all of the time.

This is the same thing that happens in the world of free antivirus solutions.

There are so many in the market right now because everyone thinks that they can do it better than the next guy.

With all of these antivirus solutions available how do you choose which one to use?

I will help you navigate your way through all of the choices that you will have so you can comes up with the best solution.

Since there are so many to choose from, I will show you how to choose a good antivirus solution that is free.

The price of software should not play the sole role in whether you use it or not but it does play a factor.

Is The Antivirus Program Limited In Any Way?

When a company or a group software to give out for free there are three main ways that they can plan on monetizing it –

1. They can make it a limited trial and shut it off after a certain time.

2. They can make it available to you forever but the software will not have all of the features of their paid-for alternative.

3. They can make it free and fully featured for all time.

If you are going to use a free antivirus solution make sure that it is not a limited trial and that it has all of the features that you will need to protect yourself.

It doesn’t help you if you are running a free antivirus solution on your system and it stops working a month from now.

And it doesn’t help if it doesn’t have all of the features that you need to protect yourself.

Check the features that you will have access to.

You do not need every feature that the more popular antivirus solutions offer but you need certain ones to protect yourself.

Make sure that it is able to scan your system in real time and that you receive daily virus signature updates.

Does The Antivirus Program Have A Good Reputation?

You must make sure that the reputation of the software that you use is solid.

There are more and more antivirus solutions popping up every day and not all of them are going to be the answer.

In fact, there are many new ‘antivirus programs’ appearing every week that are in fact complete fakes (see “What Is Scareware“).

Make sure that you go with one that has a considerable track record and that the average user confirms this in the reviews that they leave.

No matter if the antivirus solution that you pick is free or a premium version, it must be able to do its job.

If it is not able to then the price of the software is irrelevant.
