The computer security field is an exciting world and lately there are a lot of people getting into it. But while it is exciting for a lot of people that are joining, if you do not know what to expect then you may get the wrong idea. If you watch too many movies and TV shows you might think that it is something that it is not. This is especially true if you have no experience at it but decide to take a class while you are in school. So here are a couple of things that you should know before you get into the computer security field.

The first thing that you should know is something that I mentioned earlier in the article. It is not like what you see on TV and in movies. You do not get big glowing balls of light on the computer screen while you are in the middle of test hacking your project. Instead you are greeted by the low hum of your computer screen and a lot of text. The excitement comes from finding the hidden puzzles that are inside of these texts. If you have ever watched the movie Swordfish then you should really think in terms of the opposite of that.
The second thing that you should know is that your education never stops. Just because you have finished school and you received a good grade this does not mean that you are done. When you are in the computer security field the education never stops. The bad guys are going to try to infect your system with something new all of the time. You must be ready for it. If you are not then you will not be able to do your job.
The last thing that you need to know is it is a job where patience is a virtue. The bad guys are not going to give away their plans to you. You should be able to wait and try to put the clues together to see what they have done. This can take a long time.
The computer security field is a great place to work. Hopefully this will help you be more prepared when you start.
