Watch Out For Fake Online Games

If you are of a certain age then you probably grew up playing video games. The people who first played Atari (like me!) when it was released to the public are now all older and they are the ones who have extra spending money (lol!). But even the generation below them are people who have grown up with video games all of their lives so it makes sense that they are going to want to keep playing them even though they are all adults now. While they might not be at the video game store buying the latest copy of Halo, they are online playing the many games that are available to them.

And with online access, you are able to enjoy many different types of video games out there. It does not matter the genre that you are into, there is going to be a game for you to play somewhere. Are you into more story telling type games? Then you should try one of the many role playing games that are available. Are you into fighter games? Then there are plenty of games for you as well. Are you into first person shooters? Then you already know that there are a load of games for you to play since that is one of the most popular formats for people to play.

But while there are now a lot of games for people to play online, everything is not all sunny when it comes to games that you access online. There are several security concerns that you have to be worried about when you are playing games online. And that is what we are going to talk about in this article. Just like in other parts of the online universe, there are good guys and bad guys in the gaming world as well. We will show you what to look out for.

The first thing that you have to look out for when it comes to online gaming is the many fake games that are out there. A lot of black hat hackers use games as a lure to get people to either visit their malware ridden site or to download their executable that has malware in it. Gaming makes a very tempting target because you have people who cannot wait to get their hands on what you are pretending to offer.

This happens a lot to games that used for pretending to be pirate uploads and games that are based on gambling. When a new game is released black hat hackers will pretend that they have the game first but if you really inspect it the file is only about 20 mb. There is no modern game being released in this day and age that is only 20mb, at least not one that is considered to be a triple A game. People, who do not know any better rush to a torrent site, click on the download, and the next thing that you know their computer has become infected. It happens all of the time and yet there are still a ton of people who fall for it.

Also as we said before, you have a lot of fake gaming websites as well. This has been especially true ever since the United States effectively banned online gambling. People have been going online to try and find alternatives and when they do they run into the many fake poker sites that ask them to sign up and give them their credit card.

If you are looking to play games online, then you should be sure that you are careful where you go to play at. Just like with everything else online, you have to remember that there are plenty of bad guys lurking to try and take your money.
