What Exactly Is CyberBullying?

In essence cyberbullying is any type of harassment that takes place over the internet, be it on a website or via email or instant message.

Cyberbullying has begun to replace traditional forms of harassment.

Where kids were beaten up at the bus stop they are now abused on social networking sites instead.

Graffiti on the school walls has been replaced by vile and hurtful messages in chat rooms.

Fake profiles that paint the victim in an unfavourable light are ever more common.

Not only do teen relationships begin online but they are increasingly more likely to end there too with breakup messages being posted on social pages for all to see.

Arguing kids badmouth each other in a way that is far more public than before, via the internet, that allows not only their peer group to join in but anyone else in the world too.

Instead of fisticuffs at lunchtime messages are posted on sites and search engines will save them for all time.

Cyberbullying may appear less violent that the alternative sort I often witnessed during my school days but the consequences can be just as bad and sometimes worse.

Do you have any experience of cyberbulling?
