Tripwire Set To Acquire nCircle

“I am excited to share with you that on March 11, 2013, Tripwire announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire nCircle, a leader in IT Information Risk Management”
Jim Johnson, CEO, Tripwire

IT security firm Tripwire announced yesterday that they are set to acquire rival firm nCircle for an undisclosed fee. The deal, following regulatory clearances, shareholder approval, etc, will be closed in 3-6 weeks from now and will see nCircle come under the Tripwire name.

As a single entity the two firms will have a combined workforce of over 500 employees and will enjoy a customer base of 7,000 dispersed amongst 96 different countries. Together the two companies generated some $140 million in revenue last year.

The new unit will undoubtedly enjoy a larger foothold in the security and vulnerability management markets and will offer competition to the likes of Symantec, McAfee, IBM and EMC.

Only time will tell whether the two companies products will blend together or clash and much will depend on how Tripwire chooses to structure itself after the acquisition is complete.

Looking ahead, Tripwire appear to be on the prowl for further growth opportunities with CEO Jim Johnson suggesting that nCircle may only be the first of several upcoming acquisitions .
