Last year I wrote a post about what I believed to be the best free antivirus programs that you could protect your computer with in 2009.
Time, of course, does not stand still and so we are now over halfway through 2010 so I thought it was about time to revisit that list to see which are my favourite free antivirus programs now and also to look at each in more detail.

Here are the best free antivirus programs this year (in my opinion).

4. Microsoft Security Essentials
5. BitDefender 10 Free Edition
11. Comodo Free Antivirus – Take 2
Of course, what makes a good antivirus program – free or otherwise – is very subjective.
We all have different machines which we use in different ways.
There is no overall best solution here – your mileage with each may well vary.
I do believe, however, that for the most part you get what you pay for, hence my next series will be looking at the contenders for best paid antivirus program of 2011.
