The Pirate Bays Sails Onto Serbian Billboard

A group of Serbian hackers found a novel way to promote The Pirate Bay to unsuspecting shoppers – they hacked an electronic billboard. And played Space Invaders too!

After playing the old-school arcade game the hackers displayed the message seen in the image above, showing the iconic Pirate Bay ship along with a quote from Mahatma Gandhi which says, “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.’’

Though the end result isn’t in the clip you can see the guys involved playing Space Invaders in the video below –

The billboard, in the centre of the Republic Square in Belgrade, was under the hackers’ control for some 22 minutes. The computer science students claim to be apolitical and are not associating themselves with any hacktivist groups –

“We are not members of the ‘Anonymous’ and have no connection or contact with them. We are not members of any hacker organization and this clip is proof of that – we do not want and do not need to be anonymous in any way.”

– which is probably just as well really considering how none of them make any attempts to conceal their identities in the video clip.

The guys have also claimed at least some fame as their efforts didn’t go unnoticed by The Pirate Bay themselves –
