The Online Social Culture Of Hackers And How You Can Use It To Protect Your Network

The great thing about the web is that you are able to be exposed to so many different cultures that you might not have known about otherwise.

Whether the culture is based on race, ethnicity, religion, or a number of other different parameters, you have the ability to look into the window of the internet to see how these people think.

One of the cultures that have been on the internet since the beginning is the hacker culture.

I am not talking about the hacking culture of where people are just curious and they try to break things so that they can see how it works; I am talking about the black hat hacker culture on the internet.

This is where you can see the bad guys at work.

Thanks to the internet, you are able to go online and act like you are one of them but you must be careful; these guys are the technical elite when it comes to the internet.

They are able to sniff out someone who may be just trying to spy on them.

The one thing that hackers of all stripes love is to get credit for some of their greatest technical achievements.

It is very rare that you are going to find a hacker who has done something that no-one else has when it comes to the computer and not talk about it somewhere online.

It may be to a small group of people but someone else would have heard about it.

If you are able to get in the right circles then you will start to hear pieces of information like this as well but, before that happens, you must integrate yourself into the community – become one of them and truly see the things that they talk about.

Meeting The Black Hat Hackers

For the most part, the black hat hackers hang out at the same places on the internet that everyone else is at but in their own section.

Well, ok, I doubt you will find a lot of black hat hackers sharing their experiences on places such as Facebook, Twitter and Myspace but when it comes to IRC and forums, you can usually find them there.

They usually have their own community web sites or IRC servers that are hosted on servers in another country.

It is usually hard to gain entrance to one of these sites – typically, you have to be invited in.

So you are going to have to find one hacker that you can befriend that will allow you access to one of these communities.

Once you find that person then you will be able to have someone that the community trusts to allow you entrance into the sacred halls.

When you do get in there, do not assume to know the type of person that you are going to be dealing with.

Black hat hackers come in all different shapes, sizes, and colours.

They come from around the world and there is not one set prototype.

When you do get in there, go in with an open mind and you will be able to absorb and learn a lot more quickly that way.

So now that you have all of this Intel, what do you do next?

Using Hacker Intel To Your Advantage

What you do next all depends on what you went undercover for.

Did you go in there because you work for a security agency and you want to know what the next hack is going to be?

Or did you go in there because the company that you work for has already been hacked and you are trying to find clues to who did it?

There are several different reasons on why you could have decided to do surveillance on the hacker community.

All that matters is what you do with the info that you were able to retrieve.

With technology being how it is, the information that you may have been able to gather might be only good for a short time.

You must be able to act on it as soon as possible to be able to catch the people in the act.

While you might have been able to discover one hack that is being worked on, a different and better way might be found soon after.

So act now as soon as you get the chance.

Being able to infiltrate the social culture of black hat hackers is a big deal.

Knowing how your enemy thinks is a great way to be able to stop any attacks that they might deliver and even if you do not know the exact attack that they are going to use, you still will have some insight of how they might go about some other attack that they might try.
