One of the best things about owning a computer is getting to explore the many programs that are out there for you to run. While it may seem like everything is about the internet these days that is just not true. There are still a lot of fun things that you can find when it comes to native programs that you install on your computer that you just cannot find on the web. While the web is great when it comes to spreading information around the world, it still plays second fiddle to the desktop when you need application type behaviour. While there are a lot of web apps out there that you can use, none of them can stand up to the power of a PC when it starts to hit a heavy load.
And there are still many programs out there for you to choose from. There are still software makers out there who are hoping that you install their programs on your computer. And since the world of open source has exploded over the past couple of years, there are even more programs out there for you to install on your computer. Where once you would have had to several hundred dollars to get professional grade software, now all you have to do is go to your favorite open source repository and look to see what is out there. I am pretty sure that no matter what software you want to run you will be able to find an open source equivalent out there.
But you have to be careful when it comes to executables. Just like on the web, if you install the wrong executable on your computer you will see that in less than an instant your system can become very vulnerable. When it comes hiding a piece of malware, executables make the best types of places to launch an attack. Most executables these days are fairly big so it is easy for a bad guy to be able to hide something in it. And with it being that size you do not have to worry about it being a small size to get in the computer. Since it is already there all they have to do is get you to click on it and the trap is set.
While it is true that any executable can leave you vulnerable, there are certain types that are more likely to make you vulnerable than others. These are the types that you have to look out for and make sure you are very cautious when you download them. The first type of executable you want to take a look at is any that was downloaded from an adult site. This is especially true of a new adult site that you do not trust. While not all executables from adult sites are dangerous, you should really be careful when it comes to installing them on your computer.
The next type of executable you want to be on the lookout for is any that you have downloaded from an illegal warez site. Warez sites are all over the internet and you are bound to run into one at some point in your computer adventures. You should really leave these types of sites alone and just stick with legit software choices. But if you must go to these types of sites then you should know that you are running a high risk of infecting your computer.
Just remember that executables are great but you cannot just install everything that you run across. It is thinking like that that will send your computer to the local geek squad store.
