Syrian Electronic Army Targeted Water Distribution System In Israeli City

An Israeli official announced yesterday that Syria’s Electronic Army attempted a cyber attack on the water distribution system in Haifa, Israel’s third largest city.

Professor Yitzhak Ben Yisrael, chairman of Israel’s National Council for Research and Development, said that the attack, “by this organization which we don’t know exactly who is behind” was carried out two weeks ago but failed.

The professor, who happens to be a former cyber warfare adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that the attempted cyber attack appears to be in retaliation for air raids earlier in the year that were launched against Syria and reportedly executed by Israel.

The Syrian Electronic Army are a group that are quickly making a name for themselves and I suspect they will remain in the news for some time, especially following their recent hack of Sky’s Android apps which itself has only come to light in the last few hours.
