Protect Your Data Whilst Travelling

Millions of people go on the road every year. If they are not driving a car then they are flying in an airplane. If they are not flying in an airplane then they are riding the train. No matter which method of travel people use, it is obvious that even with the higher gas prices people love to travel and that is not going anywhere any time soon. Humans are still a people who like to physically explore. Even though there is a lot of technology that keep us at home, we still have a natural instinct to want to spread our wings and see how other people live.

And while we are seeing how other people live, we are taking our technology with us. The great thing about the modern day technology is that most of it is mobile. In the past if you wanted to take a computer with you while you traveled you would have to shell out for an expensive laptop. Now that is no longer the case. Laptops are cheaper and you can just as easily use your mobile phone or your tablet as a replacement for that laptop.

But there is a problem when it comes to people and how they travel with their technology. They are nowhere near careful enough and they can be exposed big time. There is a huge list of what people do wrong when they are traveling with their technology. Let’s first start off with encrypting the data that is on the device.

In case the device ever gets in wrong hands, you need to make sure that the important data is encrypted on the device. And we are not just talking about password and important documents either. A lot of the people out there remember to encrypt that sort of stuff. Not most people but many do. No, what we are talking about is the embarrassing items that you may have on your phone. We see people all of the time have nude photos exposed on their phone. Or crazy party pictures that they do not want anyone else to see. Or there might be information about them cheating on their loved ones. Whatever information you may have on the phone that you do not want exposed should be encrypted on the device.

But it is not only encrypted files you have to worry about when you are traveling with your tech devices. You also have to worry about where you log in at. Most people do not take the time to check what WIFI they are logging in with. Instead of checking to see whether they are on the hotel WIFI they just get a signal and go. This can lead to a man in the middle attack happening to you. You cannot assume that all open wireless networks are safe. You have to realize that there are bad guys who hang out in public spaces setting up fake WIFI spots. They wait for a person like you to log on and then they take their information.

We can also focus on the non technical ways that your data can be exposed. The simple fact of the matter is that there are a lot of people out there who are looking to steal high valued electronics. Some will do it by brute force such as approaching you and trying to take it while others will be slicker in their approach. So when you are using your tech, you should always be aware of your surroundings.

Protecting your data while you travel is very important. If you do not then you can end up being very exposed.
