If You Are A Network Admin These Days Then You Should Really Know More Than One System To Be Able To Do Your Job Right

For a long time when it came to computers there was only a two horse race. You would either buy the less popular Apple or you would buy the very popular Windows based computer. But it was not always like that. Before that time there was a different sentiment. Apple was one of the most popular systems out on the market but there was a lot more competition than just windows. There was the Commodore 64 and the Amiga based computers. There was a whole host of systems that you could choose from and a lot of businesses had so many different platforms that they had to worry about.

We are starting to see that era of computing form again. Instead of there just being a two horse race of just Apple and Microsoft, now we have Microsoft, Apple, Linux, Blackberry, Nokia and they all offer a bunch of different operating systems that you have to worry about. When it comes to Apple you have to worry about Mac OS X and IOS. When it comes to Windows you have to worry about Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Mobile. And when it comes to Linux based systems you have to worry about Android, Linux based servers, Linux on the desktop, and the many different flavors of the Linux platform. So that is a lot of systems that you have to see on a regular basis. And there are many more out there, including some of the other ones that we have listed, that are not as popular that you might see on your network as well. The introductions of the smartphone brought on the computing revolution once again. And if you are someone who runs a network for a small business or a large one, this is what you have to deal with all of the time. That is why it is best if you are a network admin that you know how to run several of these systems and not just one of them.

in the past so many network admins would only worry about specializing in certain technologies. They would only worry about the Linux (LAMP) stack or they would only worry about Windows based technology. But these days the people you work with can have a Windows laptop, an IPad and an Android based phone and they want them all to be able to connect to the network in a safe manner. And for you to be able to do that means being familiar with the different types of technology that is out there.

We are not saying that you should become an expert in all of the technology that is out there. What we are saying is that you should be at least familiar with the different types of popular technology that is out there. That is because you are going to be seeing it all of the time and you are not going to get along with your fellow co workers if you just plan on banning everything that you do not know. And I do not think that will make your boss happy as well.

There is a new technology revolution going on right now. We are changing once again how we use computers. They went from mainframes, to desktops, to laptops, and now in our pockets. If you want to keep your job you better be able to keep up.
