How Can I Remove A Keylogger?

A Keylogger poses a major threat to a computer user and you need to remove them the instant they are installed on your computer. A keylogger, as the name implies, records everything you type on your keyboard. This is done secretly so that you are unaware that it is happening and the information is sent back to the keylogger’s owner. Your keystrokes could then be used, for example, to find out your online backing details, including account login details and password.

Removing a keylogger from your system

Whilst not all keyloggers are the same the means to remove them are –

  • ensure that you have a good internet security program in place to block and remove keyloggers
  • likewise, look for an internet security program, such as Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, which offers a virtual keyboard for those times when you need to input sensitive data
  • turn off System Restore and reboot your computer
  • run a full system scan with the antivirus component of your security program
  • quarantine any files that are flagged as being infected and then delete them if they cannot be repaired
  • once the keylogger has been removed you will need to switch System Restore back on and now is probably a good time to create a restore point
  • exercise caution in the future and learn a little about net security so that you don’t pick up another keylogger in the future
