How Can I Encrypt My Folders In Windows?

Windows operating systems are not exactly know for keeping secrets since they have always been plagued by exploits and attacks (though Windows 7 is far more security conscious), but there are ways to keep your information safe on Windows.

One of the main ways that you should be able to do this is through the use of encryption.

Encryption will allow you to have data that is easily accessible to you but other people will not be able to get to it.

This is great for documents and other file formats that you have to have access to all of the time but you do not want anyone else to see.

In this article, I will show you how you can use Windows and other third party software to be able to encrypt your folders for private use.

What Is Encryption Exactly?

Before I go any further, I have to explain to you what encryption is.

Right now, you hopefully know the basics of what it entails, but does it do it?

Encryption is a set of numeric codes that try their best to scramble the data that is on your system.

If you have the right passkey or password then you will be able to unscramble the data that you are trying to get to.

If you do not have that information then you will not be able to see the data.

There are different levels of encryptions that you can use on the system.

Encryption is a pattern so the more difficult the pattern, the higher level the encryption is.

If you want to make sure that your data is as secure as it is going to get then you should use a very high level of encryption.

Setting The Encryption Up In Windows

Now you can go two routes when you are setting up the files for encryption on your Windows system.

To have Windows itself set up your encryption for the folder that you want you can simply right click on the folder and hit properties.

Once you hit properties, hit the advanced button.

At the bottom of the panel that pops up when you click the advanced button in Windows, click on the encryption setting and your file will be encrypted.

You will have to set up a password so that you are able to get back into the file.

Now the file is encrypted.

You can also use third party software to be able to do the same thing.

One piece of software that is very popular for this kind of job is called Truecrypt.

It is very easy to set up and is one of the most effective encryption softwares out there.

Another piece of encryption software that I have tried and liked is SafeHouse Explorer.

If you want to make sure that your data is safe then you should make sure that it is encrypted.

You can use either Windows to get the job done or you can use a third party software such as Truecrypt or SafeHouse Explorer.

Either way will make sure that your data is safe and secure.
