Hotmail Is Closing Down

The popular free email service, Hotmail.com, is close to closing down.

The service, run by Microsoft, has, apparently, become so overburdened that they are running out of resources and need to close thousands of dormant accounts at the very least.

Hotmail-closing-down

How do I know this?

Because the following email I received told me so…

Subject: Fwd: Hotmail is shutting down, pls read this if you have hotmail.

Dear Hotmail User,

Because of the sudden rush of people signing up to Hotmail, it has come to our attention that we are vastly running out of resources. So, within a month’s time, anyone who does not receive this email with the exact subject heading, will be deleted off our server. Please forward this email so that we know you are still using this account.

WARNING WARNING

Hotmail is overloading and we need to get rid of some people and we want to find out which users are actually using their Hotmail accounts. So if you are using your account, please pass this e-mail to every Hotmail user that you can and if you do not pass this letter to anyone we will delete your account.

From Mr. Mark Bernard
Hotmail Admin. Dept.

Before you panic and sign-in, as some of my friends who received this did, you should realise that this is no more than an email hoax.

Microsoft have plenty of resources and hotmail will not be closing any time soon.

Well I’m pretty certain that Hotmail would not email you to ask for your email address and password… so…

I got the same sort of email as Carolyn but I almost replied, but and then I remembered they promised the staff would never ask for info over emails or something like that, and I decided to look it up and found this page. I’ve never gotten an email like it before though.

“I have alwasy been told do not give out that kind of info unless you are the one making contact with any kind of company.”

That is very good advice indeed.

I just got a message saying my hotmail would be closed if I did not verify it bu sending them my username, password and a couple of other things. I figure that there are ways they can verify without me giving them my info. I have alwasy been told do not give out that kind of info unless you are the one making contact with any kind of company.

Yeah, I think hotmail is sufficiently famous that if this was true an awful lot of media outlets would be leading with the story!

yeah i never believed it cause it said it would close down in november 2008. well it’s november now and i don’t think anything happened did it!? then i got a completely different one saying it will close down “soon” with all the people it’s been through and if it were real it would of closed down by now. so yet again this is one of the chains im partly pissed and laughing about.
