Extracting Your Data From Cloud Services

You hear all of the time now about the cloud. Even people who do not know what it really means are always talking about cloud web services. They want to be on the latest trends and the latest buzz word in tech is “cloud”.

But there is a danger lurking underneath these cloud services. Some of the danger is from a security perspective and some of the danger comes from the services themselves. We have seen cloud services being shut down recently because of problems with the RIAA and the MPAA. If you have data that was invested in any of these services that were shut down then you no longer have access to it anymore. The government has your data and you do not know when, or if, you will be able to get it back. This can lead to some serious problems for you and any business that you might have done on the cloud.

Extracting Your Data From Cloud Services

The security issues that can happen from using a cloud service to store your data are many. The number one problem that people worry about is someone being able to get inside the security layers of the cloud service. Services like this probably have black hat hackers trying to get in them around the clock. For this reason they have to make sure that their security is top notch. If the service is big enough there is a good chance that they will have to have a specialized network security person just to be able to handle all of the threats.

But remote threats are not the only thing that you have to worry about when it comes to services such as this. You also have to worry about inside threats as well. You have to make sure that the service has some sort of guarantee against people who work there being able to see your data. Yes, some people who work there will probably have the ability to peek every now and then but you still have to make sure that the service can be trusted. Inside threats are just as big as outside remote threats. Before you use any cloud service you have to make sure that they have a good reputation when it comes to privacy.

This is why you must make sure that it is easy to be able to extract all of your data out of the cloud service when you need to. If you are not able to get a back up before a service like this shuts down then all of your data can be lost.
