Elena Volkova : Russian Dating Scam

I’d almost forgotten about the fake profile I had put up on one of those Russian dating sites but, for some reason, decided to check the emails on there.

My alter ego, Jack Hov, seems to be very popular indeed, having received over 1000 emails!

I’ve certainly not had time to read them all but one of the few I looked at caught my eye as it contained a photograph which I’ve included in the text of ‘her’ email below.

For those who do not know about Russian dating scams I should point out that ‘Elena Volkova’ is almost certainly NOT looking for love or marriage. There is also a fair chance that ‘she’ is not even female.

A quick search of the net will reveal that her name is linked to online dating scams in a big way so think carefully before corresponding with anyone who contacts you in this way.

  1. Hello Friends:
I also was contacted in December 6th, by a russian girl called ELENA from Krasnokamsk, I am peruvian, and it seems to me very suspiciuos that a beautiful girl sent many beautiful photos, (I would like send them to you for checking) and very easly got in love with me. After a month of communication by letters, she said that would like to come to Peru and she needed some confidential information from me.

  2. It seems we guys have the same internet girlfriend. i have been duped into thinking she is in love with me and wants to marry. I dont get it though. how does she expect to receive money? i am not exactly going to mail it

  3. I was contacted by one “Elena Bakanova” after apparently “she” hacked into zoosk:

    “Hey!
So, I found your email on dating site .Use my sister’s account…
I want to date with some attractive.
    Please portray you”

I know it is a scam, but I sent her a WTF? in response to this email. It does not matter what I reply with. I could send her random keystrokes. She always replies in some adoring manner. She goes on and on about her family and how she misses me. It’s a fun read, but it’s very fake.

Wow… No doubt that it is a scam. And a very poorly written one. Anyone who falls by such a poorly devised letter really needs to smarten up quick.
On the other hand, its always good to be alert for suspicious behavior. Scammers are probably smartening up, too.
