Don’t Scam Yourself With Your New Year’s Resolutions

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Where I live, in the UK, it is already 2008.

That means plenty of people have decided, or are deciding upon, their new year’s resolutions.

You know the sort of thing – lose weight, get in shape, give up smoking, etc.

Most of those people will fail though, often within weeks or even days from now.

Such people have failed to plan and think things through properly.

They have deluded themselves into thinking something is easy when it is not. They have forgotten that if something seems to be too good to be true then it probably is.

For that reason, the setting of such resolutions is, in some ways, their own personal scam because the end result will be failure and disappointment in themselves.

Undoubtedly, those same losers will then shelve those hopes, ambitions and dreams until the same time next year.

Make it different this year

If you want to change things this year, if you have resolutions you want to keep, then you need to do something different.

If you don’t want to scam yourself this year then you need to follow these 5 steps –

1. Set a goal

2. Make a plan

3. Write it down

4. Enlist support

5. Take action

By setting a goal you give yourself something to work towards.

By making a plan you can break a large resolution down into smaller and more manageable tasks. You can also set yourself timescales for achieving each step towards the ultimate goal.

Writing your resolutions down helps you visualise, and therefeore memorise, them far better. This makes it far more likely that you will stick to your plans.

Enlisting support means involving friends and family who can help you along the way, either by praising good efforts or by guiding you back on track when you fail.

Taking action is the most important action – if you don’t change yourself then how can you hope to change the world you live in, or even your immediate environment?
