Defend Your Files From The Bad Guys

The information age is upon us and, believe it or not, all information has value. While it is of course true that not all information is considered “valuable”, it is true that all information has some sort of value to it. And the information that is considered valuable might not be what you think it is. When people tend to think of information being valuable they tend to imagine that which that will lead you to making money right then and there. They think that as soon as you look at the paper and gather the information that is on it, that you will be able to make some money off of it. But not all information is like that. Some information takes time and energy to be able to make money off of it.

Some information needs you to piece it with other bits of data for you to be able to make money off of it. It is not valuable by itself but paired with other bits of information the value suddenly increases tremendously. And sometimes you have to learn how to use the information that you have been given. You can read all you want about a subject but sometimes there is other stuff you have to learn before that information becomes valuable. Maybe you have to have an underlying understanding about the subject before the information becomes valuable to you. So as you can see, information can be valuable in different ways, it all has to do with the particular information that you have.

This is why you have to worry about the files that are on your computer. You cannot just assume that the info that you have on there will not be of valuable to anyone else. You do not know how the bad guys think so you cannot assume that you know what they are going to do with the information that you have on your system. The file that you think would have the littlest bit of importance to anyone outside of you or your family maybe the same exact file that they are looking for. You cannot pretend to know the criminal mind unless you are a criminal yourself.

This is why you have to make sure that you protect your files at all times. And we mean all of the files that are on your computer and not just some of them. Because at all times of the day there are people sweeping the open ports of the internet trying to find a way to get into some poor little system out there. And sooner or later it will be your computer that they scan and if they are able to find any open ports on your system then the data that you thought so little about can become the piece of information that ends up getting you in trouble.

That is why you want to have the right software on your system when you are fighting the bad guys. You do not want them to be able to get in your system without a fight so you should at the very least have the basics to be able to fight them off. When we say basics we mean an up to date antivirus software suite protecting the files coming in and the files that are already on your computer. And we also mean that you need a firewall protecting both the computer that you are actually using and the router that it might be connected to. While it might be enough to have a firewall covering one or the other, having two firewalls up will not hurt.

Defend your files at all times. You never know what can be used to hurt you.
