Cut Down Your Antivirus Scanning Time – 3 Tips

Running an antivirus scan on Windows 7 or any other operating system can seem like a task that can take forever.

You will see many antivirus software solutions that say that they have the fastest scanning times out of all of the other software out there and while that might be true, even the fastest antivirus program can seem like it takes forever.

This is why you may need a few tips that will help you get through those scanning times quickly and easily.

This is what I have to offer in this article.

While my tips might not cut the time down by half, it will help take a proportional amount of time off.

It is important to make the scanning time of the antivirus as quick as possible.

If you do not then people will not want to run the scanning mechanism at all and that will lead to their machines becoming infected.

So let’s take a look at how you can cut down the time.

Shut Off All Other Running Programs

The one major reason why it may take so long for the antivirus scan to complete is that you have other programs running at the same time.

When you run a program you are using up CPU time.

When you have a system that is not multicored then that means the antivirus is going to have to wait a cycle while you are running the program that you are using.

While it may seem like the antivirus is still running to you because the wait is so fast, it is slowing it down more than necessary.

So if you would like the antivirus scanner to go quicker, then you are going to have to wait and do whatever it is that you are doing later.

This is why most scans are done at night. Nighttime is when most people are not using the computer and nothing will interrupt the scan.

Check To See If Your Antivirus Program Is One Of The Better Ones On The Market

When you pick your antivirus software you might not do a good job.

You might have picked it because it was the cheapest or you may have picked it because it already came installed on your computer.

Whatever the case may be, lower quality antivirus software is going to run slower when it comes to scanning than higher quality software will.

So if you want to be sure that you have faster scan times then make sure that you are picking software that is well reviewed.

It doesn’t matter if it is free or not, just pick the better software.

Reduce The Number Of Files To Be Scanned

If you have any unnecessary files on the system before you scan the entire thing, now might be a good time to get rid of them.

The more files that the software has to scan; the longer the scan is going to take.

Sometimes we will leave files and installed programs on the computer that we have no use for anymore.

Make sure that you get rid of them.

These are the three things that you can do to make sure that your antivirus scan goes quicker.
