Avoiding Man In The Middle Attacks While You Are Travelling

The great thing about computers these days is how mobile they are. In the past, trying to be mobile with a computer was very difficult. You had two choices, either you would spend a very large amount of money and get one of the few laptops that were available back then or you would take your desktop computer with you. Many gamers would do this when they wanted to have LAN parties with their friends.

But now that is no longer the case.

Avoiding Man In The Middle Attacks While You Are Travelling

These days it is a lot easier to compute while you are on the go. You have several options that are at your feet. If you have serious computing to do then you can take a powerful, inexpensive laptop with you to wherever you have to go. If you just have light computing to do then you could go with a mini netbook or one of the many tablets that are out on the market. And if you want an even smaller computing experience then you can go with one of the many powerful smart phones that are out on the market. These days a smart phone is just like a mini computer and you can get a lot done with it.

Internet access

And while you may be doing work on all of these devices, for many people the main thing that they are going to want to do is access the internet while they are on the go. For many people being able to use the internet is the one thing that they like doing with the computer. And for many other people it is essential for their work that they have internet access. So as you can see, while many people just enjoy having a mobile computing experience, there are a lot of people out there as well who need to have a mobile computing experience for their lively hood.

But it takes a little bit more than just being able to get the internet while you are traveling to have a pleasant mobile computing experience. You need to make sure that your mobile computing experience is safe as well. If you do not then you will find yourself running into the same problems as you would if you were on your computer at home.

Network security

The main security problem that travelers have when they use the internet on the go is safety when connecting to an unknown network. There are a lot of bad guys out there who have learned how to spoof the network of a really popular spot and act like it is one of their own. They then have the people connect to that network and then commence to stealing all of the data that is sent through that network. They are able to get your usernames and passwords without even trying. This is what is known as a man in the middle attack and it is very effective.

Avoiding man in the middle attacks

If you want to avoid having a man in the middle attack work on you then there are a few things that you can do.

The first thing that you can do is to make sure that the network that you are connecting to is the right one. If you have to ask the person that is behind the counter if it is the right one then do not be afraid to ask. It can save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

The next thing that you should do is to make sure that all of your important data transfer over the web is encrypted. This means that when you visit a web site you’re sure to use HTTPS login if it is available. This is especially important if you go and visit a banks web site. They all offer HTTPS and most of it is by default. So make sure that you use it.

And the last thing that you can do is to try to use the network connection that comes with your mobile phone. While it is not one hundred percent safe, it is a lot safer than using a strange network while you are on the go. With a strange network you are always pressing your luck that everything is going to be alright. With the internet connection on your mobile phone, it is a connection that you are already used to using.

So as you can see Man in the middle attacks can be a real problem while you are traveling. It is really something that you have to be aware of. Do not forget to be aware of them while you are using a network in your city as well. The problem can happen by connecting to a strange network on the next block.
