Anonymous KISS Hacker Pleads Guilty

“Sue everybody, take their houses, their cars. The music industry was asleep at the wheel and didn’t have the balls to sue every freckle-faced kid who downloaded tracks.”
Gene Simmons, KISS

The above statement from Gene Simmons to the entertainment industry upset hacking group Anonymous to the point where they carried out a DoS attack against and a couple of other sites back in October 2010. Anonymous called their retribution ‘Operation Payback’.

Now, following an FBI probe, a 25 year old man, Kevin George Poe, has made a plea bargain in which he has picked up a misdemeanor for unauthorised impairment of a protected computer. The FBI probe discovered that Poe’s computer had been responsible for hitting Simmon’s personal site with some 69,000 request during the DoS attack.

Poe, known online as ‘spydr101’, had originally faced charges of conspiracy and computer impairment which carried a maximum sentence of 15 years. Following his plea bargain he is now most likely looking at probation though a one year jail sentence is not out of the question.
