After Creating A Good Password What Should You Do Next?

We are told from day one that if we want to keep everything protected, then we are going to need a good password to do it.

You need a password that is long enough and complicated enough that it is hard to guess.

The next step that you are supposed to follow is to make sure that the password is something that you do not use at other places – if it is a password that you use in other places then there is a good chance that you cut the effectiveness by half.

Also you are going to need a safe place to store that password – if a password is easy enough so that you can remember it then it is a password that is not good enough.

You need to make sure that the password is hard for even you to remember and that you have a safe place to keep it at.

In the following article I will show you why this is important and also several more steps that you need to consider when thinking of a good password.

Password Creation

When you take the time to create a password for a web site, the more important the web site, the more you should think about the password that you are going to use.

Most likely if the web site is that important to you, it is going to be something that you want to make sure that people stay out of.

It could be information that could harm you if it got out to the public.

For example, if your banking information ever got out then that could ruin your financial future for several years.

This is why you want to take the time and really think about what you are going to put as your password on a site like this.

Make sure that the password is a mixture of both numbers and letters.

Mixing letters and number makes sure that if a black hat hacker tries to guess your password with some of the code breaking tools out there; it will take them even longer to go through the combinations.

Also make sure that the password does not contain any dictionary words.

If the word is in the dictionary then that means it is going to be easy to guess with some of the software out there.

If you do want to use a dictionary word then you should go with a long passphrase.

A passphrase is a password that contains a phrase and not just a word.

For example, your password would not just be “cat”; it would be “thecatisgoingtotehstore763”.

A passphrase will help you remember the password better while also providing you superior protection.

Do not forget to add the numbers in a passphrase.

Just because the password is long, you still want to make it harder to guess by placing numeric characters in there.

Also, do not make the password personal.

In other words do not use your kids’ or spouse’s name as your password.

If you do then anyone who looks up your history will be able to figure the password out.

This is a mistake that most people do and the black hat hackers out there realize this.

Keep the passwords as impersonal as possible.

And the last thing that you want to do is to make sure that you use a different password on every site.

Most people are lazy and will use the same password on each site that they go to. This is not a good idea.

Web sites get broken into all of the time and the data that they store gets exposed.

If this happens at one of the web sites that you visit you do not want the other web sites that you go to be exposed.

So make sure all of your passwords are different and if one of the sites gets broken into that is the only site that you have to worry about.

What To Do After Your Password Is Created

I have gone through the steps of how to make a good password.

Now I will talk about what you can do after your password is created.

The first thing that you should do is to make sure that it is stored in a safe place.

Some people use a paper tablet to store passwords on their desk – this is not a good idea – anybody who has access to that desk now has access to all of your passwords that you use on a daily basis.

While you may trust most of the people who go by that desk, there is going to be a time when someone you do not know that good walks by and takes a look.

Use software such as keepass to store your passwords.

That way you know that it’s behind encryption and it is easily accessible.

Making a good password and then storing it safely is very important.

If you do it right then you will find yourself a lot safer.
