A Huge Thank You To The InfoSec Community

Yesterday I wrote and published a post which I’m sure most of you have already read. It was a spur of the moment thing – though I do still stand by everything I said – and I had no idea how it would be received.

In some ways I took a risk with my own personal information – I disclosed some aspects of my life that I would never have ordinarily shared – but the way in which it was received absolutely blew me away. I guess there is a lesson there about how information has value and carries risk but that it is the manner in which you share it, and who with, that counts?

Anyways, I just wanted to say how grateful I am to the information security community for the way you all made me feel yesterday. I’m very old-school where emotions are concerned but even I was choked yesterday and ended up having to walk away from my computer for some time.

That said, being a decent chap (hopefully) I wanted to make sure that I replied to every DM and email that came my way. I received something like 180 messages of support yesterday (and thats not counting Tweets and phone calls), as well as more today, and I feel absolutely staggered by that response. So, getting back to everyone is going to take time – I have many more messages to send and don’t expect to get through them all before going to work this evening – so please do bare with me at this time, I appreciate the effort all of you have put into contacting me, even those of you who were less than positive!

As I have made this decision to free up time I am not going to roll out a huge list of names of people to whom I feel such gratitude – there are simply far too many of you and I would feel bad if I missed even one of you out.

So I shall just say thank you to each and every one of you who contacted me in any way yesterday or passed comment in other mediums – it feels great to be appreciated and that is something I will certainly miss.

For now though I must get off the computer again – staying up until 4 a.m. and then getting up again at 6 a.m. to write emails has left me with a pounding headache.

Tomorrow is a new day though and I have more phone calls due, plus the issue of what to do with this site to consider, but I will certainly keep in contact with some of you – the Twitter account will be kept. So, if you want to send a message please free to do so and I will reply, albeit perhaps not immediately.
